Micki is a part of a team that has been providing Autism Awareness & Acceptance Trainings around the Knoxville area for the past two years. Every community training is tailored to suite your business or communities needs. Trainings can be one hour or one day, depending on your needs.
All community trainings are focused on increasing an understanding of autism and improving acceptance of individuals with autism. They are also however, designed to be functional and practical, offering real-life challenges and solutions based on the needs of those in the training.
The Socially 7 approach is built on a foundation that true social growth can only happen when people feel safe and understood. By fostering this safe environment, Group participants engage in social interactions that mirror real-life experiences, creating opportunities for friendships to be built and therapeutic lessons to be learned. The Socially 7 approach relies on 7 key social concepts that Micki weaves into the interactions, conversations and intentional lessons. These 7 key concepts are both generalized to everyone and tailored to meet each participant's unique needs.
Micki often encourage Group participants to “get comfortable being uncomfortable” because that’s where the real growth happens. This approach to social skills intervention is a constant and intentional balance between socializing and intervention, social challenges and respecting authenticity, and sometimes building friendships and self-reflections.
A good candidate for the social skills Group is someone who is looking for a better understanding of themselves and their social interactions and are committed to growth. Social Skills Group participants engage in fun interactive sessions, breaking down social interactions and engage in self-reflection. It is a safe space to meet people who “get you” and practice new skills.
Whether dealing with autism, social anxiety, or other barriers, Group participants need to be ready to participate in their own development, collaborate with Micki and other participants, have some fun, meet new people and become a part of a community!
Autism and the social challenges that accompany it, is at the heart of the Socially 7 approach. A diagnosis of autism however is not a prerequisite to attend or benefit from Social Skills Groups. One truth that Micki repeats often in her sessions and trainings that “in the world of social skills, we all have edges that need smoothing and pieces that need polishing”. Individuals with autism do however often have very nuanced experiences and possess a unique way of interacting with the world. We respect these strengths and challenges, and aim to provide support that acknowledges both.
I am committed to making Social Skills Group services available to all teens and young adults in the Knoxville area. I often meet individuals who would benefit from Groups but face financial barriers. To help break down this barrier, I have established an Empowerment Scholarship Fund. This Fund directly supports individuals who want to attend Social Skills Groups but can not afford it.
For these people/families, I am discounting my fees by 50% and 100% of any donation you make will go to covering the remaining cost.
If you would like to make a donation to this Fund, please click the link below. You will then be directed to an email form where you can state your donation offer.
Once received, I’ll send an invoice to finalize your contribution.
Thank you in advance for your generosity!
